Maintenance Works for the Port of Felixstowe were due and Europa were contracted to undertake the task.
Works involved the removal of two fire pumps and refurbishment works to the Penstock Valve which was heavily corroded due to cathodic protection failure.
Firstly divers had to remove a build up of silt on the cofferdam floor, special pumps were bought in for this purpose.
Next the fire pumps and penstock valve were removed and sent for refurbishment.
A dry environment was needed to re-install the pumps and penstock valve so divers temporary blanked of the seawater intake pipe at the quay edge.
A profiled steel blank was bolted to the steel sheet piling for this purpose.
Finally the pump house cofferdam could be pumped dry enabling our staff to replace the pumps and penstock valve successfully.
